So close to 500

I've been REALLY sick the past week and a half and while this hasn't hindered my painting it has hindered my gaming time since I haven't been wanting to get out to my local FLGS.

So, the only real news is that the warmachines have taken longer than expected but I finally have the crews completed!

 (7 crew complete)

 (3 crew w/ Bolt Thrower)

(4 crew w/ Bolt Thrower)
Sorry about the poor lighting on the pictures.

Once I finish the 2 Bolt Throwers (which won't take long) I'll finally be finished my first 500 points worth of Dwarf models!!! I've based my next 250 points and I've primered them so that I can start on them right away when I finish up my first 500 point chunk. If you recall  my next 250 points will be a unit of Slayers and another 10 Dwarf Warriors w/ shields to fill up my Warrior unit.

I'm hoping that with the 4 day weekend coming up that I can get some headway.

BUT... I also have to plan for one of these night to bottle my beer. It's been a month since it's been brewed and it's about time to bottle it up so that it'll be ready for Christmas time.

First Battle

Just a quick update...

Yesterday I saw my first taste of metal clashing against metal as my dwarves battled the foul taint of chaos Slaanesh demons at my local FLGS. I would love to say that my 500 point dwarven force came out as the winners but in this case they received a disappointing loss. Still with everything that happened and with being my first game in a LONG time I don't think that I did too bad. I played against a Slaanseh force that had a unit of Seekers of Slaanesh, a Fiend of Slaanesh and a unit of Daemonettes.

Learning point... Slaanesh Demons are FAST! His Seekers were dug into combat on his second turn. And my awesome shooting does nothing againse the demon's Ward saves. Plus, it helps when the oposing player only fails 1 armour save the whole game. This just wasn't my day.

What I need to get into my army for my next 250 points is more bodies! It's a really good thing that I've already been planning for this and have begun assembly on more bodies in the forms of slayers and warriors.

Paint continues on the 2 Bolt Thrower units and since I'm going away for work and taking my paints with me for the night to the hotel they should be complete in a week or two.

There is also a group of gamers beginning to play Warmachine on Wednesday nights so I'll begin painting up Gorten and his battle box soon.

2 Units Finally Done!

So, last night I finally finished up my unit of Dwarf Thunderers amd my unit of of Dwarf Warriors. These are the first 2 units that I've had fully painted in 6 or 7 years!!! I just to dull coat them so that they'll be protected.

 (10 Thunderers)

(10 Warriors)

Next up that I need to finish painting to catch up with last month's quota is my two warmachines and their crews. Should be simple enough (hopefully).

(1 new style bolt thrower w/ 4 crew and 1 old style bolt thrower w/ 3 crew)

I have my next 250 points listed that I need to finish painting to meet the second portion of the quota.

- 10 more warriors with shields for the warrior squad to bulk it out to 20 models - 90 points
- 10 Slayers with musician and standard bearer - 128 points
(I really don't like Slayers but they'll be easy and quick to paint and will add more bodies to my force and will hopefully add a bit of intidation factor to my opponent)
I'm going to take the last few points and give my Thunderers a full command - 25 points

That gives me 243 points and will put the whole army at exactly 750 points.

Here are some WIP photos for a unit filler for the Warriors unit that I've been working on.

Details Details Details

Work is coming along on my Dwarves. I'm afraid that I won't be able to meet my deadline though. I have 1 more week to finish up the unit of thunderers, Warriors and the two bolt throwers. I would be done if I didn't spend so much time on the details but you know what... I'm not worried about it. I'd much rather miss a painting deadline and have 2 really good looking units than to meet the deadline and have the whole 500 force painted up and looking like crap.

(Unit of Warriors with shields and Unit of Thunderers)

(Thunderers)

(Warriors with Shields)

I should be able to finish up the two core units which once finished will be the first full unit of models that I've finished in about 8 years! This makes me extremely happy and I look forward to the day when I can say "Damn... I'm done with these units!"

In the next few days I'll put into words what I want to do with the next 250 points of this force. I also haven't even played a game yet. I've been going to my local FLGS but it's been no help at all. I will try to go on Sunday and see again if I can pick up a game.

Painting Frenzy

Here are some WIP photos on the Core troops

(Thunderers)

I know that's it hard to tell but the armor is done, the clothing is done, the skin needs one final highlight, leathers and beards and bases need to be painted and they'll be complete!

(Warriors)

Same as with before. Almost complete.

I'd say that the core troops are about 70 % done. I don't know if I'll make the painting deadline especially with having to paint up 2 warmachines and crews. It may be a late Friday night for me painting as much as I can just to get ahead.

Dwarf Beginnings

Work continues on my 500 point dwarf force. Here is the list so far...

General
Thane - 92
W/ shield, MRO Swiftness

Core
Warriors - 115
10 Warrios
Full Com
Shields

Core
Thunderers - 140
10 Thunderers

Special
Bolt Thrower - 85
Engineer
RO Penetrating

Special
Bolt Thrower - 75
MRO Skewering

My plan is to shoot, shoot, shoot!!!

My brother and I have planned on committing to the Tale of Four Gamers with our armies but instead of 500 points a month we'll be painting up just 250 points per month and starting with a 500 points force. This gives us a lower points value that we can easily paint up and have ready for our games. He said that he'll be playing Dark Elves and he has already stated that his army is going to be highly mobile. I'm hoping that my massed firepower can easily overcome his units because I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO CATCH HIM ON FOOT!

(The force so far)

(Thunderers)

(Warriors - 5 I painted a while ago and I'm going to use the same color scheme)

(Thane - Painted years ago and I will be repainting him!)

I went to my local FLGS on Sunday with my 500 point Dwarf force expecting to get a few games in and hoping that I could learn some of the rules again and get a feel for the game. DAMN!!! I didn't know that the schedule of days had changed!!! The store has now decided to have dedicated nights for Fantasy and 40K. Now Sunday is no longer the catch all for Wargaming. But this great! Now I can go on a certain night and play my game of choice against oponents that are looking for the same game! This makes it so much easier and I am very happy about this!

I stayed for a few hours and I watched a game of Flames of War being played. I've never wanted to play a Flames of War game but I may have to start looking into it because I really like the ease of painting the models. But right now THEY ARE NOT IN THE BUDGET!!! Afew of the players there also play fantast so at least they know my face now and hopefully it will be easier to find oponents now.

Now to get back to painting!

Friday Fun

So, it's Friday here and I wanted to give a rundown of everything that I sorted out that pertains to the dwarf models that I had stowed away.

So here goes...

- 8 Slayers

- 9 Hammerers

- Bolt Thrower (new style)

- Bolt Thrower (old style)

- 2 Cannon (old style)

- Cannon (AOBR)

- Organ Gun (new style)

- 8 Miners (AOBR)

- 10 Thunderers (AOBR)

- 12 Warriors (AOBR)

- 12 Warriors (new style)

- 12 Longbeards (old style)

- Warriors w/ Great Weapons (old style)

- 20 Warriors (old style)

- 16 Thunderers (new style)

- 11 Quareller (old style)

- 1 Bugman model (using him as a Runelord / Runesmith)

- 1 Slayer (AOBR)

- 2 Heroes (1 AOBR)

- 1 Lord

So, there you go! Not bad for having them just lying around. Everything minus the characters equals about 2000 points without wargear. With the characters there's probably around 3000 points.

I'll be updating with pictures soon of my progress with my 500 point force.

Whatcha Got? - Fantasy

Went through all of my dwarf stuff over the weekend.

(Backstory) Right before I quit playing years ago, I was beginning to collect dwarf models to start a dwarf army. I got a few models in trades that I'd conducted and then I had bought the rest. When I stopped playing I just threw everything into a box and up in the attic it went.

I finally pulled everything out over the weekend and started to go through everything.

(Here is the pile of dwarves)

(all of the models organized... Not shown is ANOTHER cannon in a blister)

(My original 500 point army that I was beginning)

So, There you go.

I organized everything that was put together. I never knew that I had so much dwarf stuff hidden away. After sorting through everything and adding up all of the units it looks as though I have over 2000 points without characters and upgrades!!! I am amazed that I had that much crap just shoved into a box!!! I'm really happy that I had this much and it really takes a mountain of stress off my mind knowing that I don't have to purchase very much to have a complete army.

I'll add a list of everything broken down within the next few days.

OH NO... NOT WARHAMMER FANTASY!!!

So, just a quick update. My little brother calls the other day. He states "that he's gone to Games Workshop and bought himself some fantasy models and wants to start playing".

My little brother is kinda funny. He's about 8 years younger than I and he played a few games with some of my armies when we were younger. He always talks about getting back into the hobby but I always take what he says with a bit of salt because it's usually the alcohol talking.

BUT it looks like he actually got the ball rolling. So, it looks like I am going to be dusting off my old fantasy models and I'm going to see what I have to work with. I have the Dwarf battle force and the old Battle for Skull Pass box with Dwarves and Goblins. So I could start from there. I think that I actually have some other dwarves that are boxed up somewhere.

Playing games with him won't be as frequent as I'd like because he lives 60 miles away but I'd say that once a month is prolly a good estimate and plus I can always play at the local FLGS. The local FLGS is actually having a Warhammer Fantasy tournament this Sunday so I'm going to see if I can stop by for a buit and watch a game or two.

So within the next few days I should have a rough estimate of what I have available to work with. My brother says that he wants to aim for a game of 1250 points within the next few weeks. If I decide to use dwarves then it should be relatively easy to get to that because Dwarf Lords are pricy.
