I'm Not Dead

Been a while since my last post and I apoligize for that. I'm still around. Kind of took a break from everything hobby related and now I'm working myself on the right path to getting back on track. I'm going to collect some of my thoughts together and post soon about what's been going on.

A Plan Has Been Set In Motion

So... I have set a plan in motion to help me get these freebooter orks started and hopefully set me on the road to get a fully painted 40K army...

Here is my 500 point army list so far

Freebooter Orks
- HQ - Warboss - 110 points
power klaw
attack squig
eavy armour
bosspole
- Troops - Boyz - 155 points
nob w/ power klaw, bosspole
19 boyz
- Troops - Gretchin - 80 points
2 runtherder
20 gretchin
- Fast - Deffkoptas - 135 points
3 w/ twin linked rokkits
Total - 480 points
I have plenty of bodies in this list along with a Fast attack choice. This should be a decent list for 500 points but doesn't have much long range shooting besides the deffkoptas but at this low of a points value this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I have worked out my next 250 points to move me up to 750 points
- Fast - Deffkoptas - 90 points (my thoughts are to fill out the existing deffkopta squad)
2 w/ twin linked rokkits
- Heavy - Killa Kans - 150 points
3 w/ rokkit launchas
- Troops - Gretchin - 40 (my thoughts are to fill out the existing gretchin unit to 33 bodies)
1 runtherder
10 gretchin
Total - 760 points
I've used this 250 points to fill out 2 of the already existing squads and add a heavy support choice.
I'm going to try and paint up 250 points every other month like I was my dwarves. This month will be hard to hit that goal because work has really been keeping me busy but with the completion of my first 10 gretchin it's really pushed me to at least complete the first 500 points. I have also worked out an easy way to get my major colors painted up with minimal work. I'll keep this blog updated with my progress and see how far my freebooters travel!!!

WIP Shots of my Ork Freebooter Kaptin

A few WIP shots of my Ork Freebooter Kaptin.

This was my first time really using green stuff and I don't think that it turned out that bad. I'm going to name him Kaptin Jork Sparrow.

My Freebooter Ork Kaptin has his ship!

Just a quick update on what's been going on and my progress with my 500 points of Freebooter Orks.

I got my new airbrush in the mail yesterday. I'm super excited to be using this bad boy. It has 3 different size needles and will hopefully make basecoating a bit easier.

I went to the fleamarket over the weekend and I finally found my Kaptain his ship. It is a all wooden model kit that I'll have to convert a bit but this thing is huge!!!

(My ork Kaptain for scale purposes)

The model is from Early Learning Center. It is a European company and the ship is very high quality. It'll be a shhmae to mess it up but and ork has to do what an ork has to do! This ship when it is all done will be larger than a battle wagon so I may need to look through the Imperial Armour volumes to see if there is a larger ork vehicle that I can use the rules for.

We "AAAAARRRRRGH" A Go For Freebooter Pirate 40K Orks

I've been hitting a a real wall with painting my dwarves lately. The rank and file troops just get so boring to paint over and over again.

I've decided that to spice things up I'd start painting my Orks again.

I'd seen a picture of some Freebooter "Pirate" Orks the other day and I really liked the look and feel of them. I've worked up a 500 point list and I'm hoping that by mixing up armies that I can keep myself interested in painting armies and not just single models.

Unit of Gretchin

Unit  of Orks

Deffkoptas

Yay for magnetizing!

My first attempt and greenstuff modeling a pirate hat

Side View (AARRGH)

I know that that the whole pirate ork thing has been done before and I'll be using some peoples ideas for certain things but the whole point of this project is to just have fun and to keep myself motivated. I'm going to try ordering a few conversion bitz from

When I get my package in I'll try and do a review post so that anyone that's interested can get my opinion of their product.

Mini Vacation

I didn't get much painting done over the weekend because well... I wasn't home!!! I was able to get the family out of the house and we took an ultra-cheap weekend vacation to Atlantic City.

Just a few shots from our balcony on the 19th floor...

I did however get one model completed the other day though! I picked this anime style model a LONG time ago. It was nice to get away from the dwarves and paint something a little different.

I signed up for a painting challenge on the Bartertown forums. It's just a little friendly competition to try to help some members get their armies painted up throughout the year. At the end of the year the member with the most points wins... NOTHING except for bragging rights.

I haven't been to my local FLGS in ages. I really need to get down there and hang out for a bit.

Also on a side note... My new webcam SUCKS. I think that I may take my monthly hobby allowance and get something a little better. Maybe being cheap wasn't the way to go.

The Slayers have been Slayed!!!

HOORAY!!! My first unit of 2012 has been completed!!! The Dwarf Slayer unit for my next 250 points was finished just a few minutes ago and I am too happy to have finally finished this unit!!!!!

Next up on my list of Dwarves is my Dwarf Warriors with hand weapons and shield to go into my already existing unit of Warriors. I've used the airbrush to spray on brown for the base and silver for the cahinmail. I'm hoping by airbrushing on some of these colors that I can speed up the process a bit. Once I complete these then I can continue onto my next 250 points!!!

I also need to get cracking on my Warmachine Rhul army.

I've basecoated the 3 Gun bunnies. I have tried my hand at magnetizing the guns. Not too shabby!

(Gorten Grundback)

I've also magnetized the Driller arms.

YouTube better watch out!

Got my webcam in the mail Friday. Started my YouTube channel. I'm still going to post to the blog because I find this a lot easier to take care of than making videos.

Here's a link to my first video...

Gonna do some painting on the Slayers tonight and I'll take some photos of my progress.

The Work Continues...

Work continues on the dwarves. The airbrush is a savior! Being able to spray on the base layer on the base of the minis make the time fly. I used to brush on the base color of the base and it took forever to get a base done that way. I was able to spray the base color on in barely no time for the next 250 points of dwarves.

I really need to get them done. I'm so far behind. I'm almost done with the slayers though. I thought that they would go quick but the models have so many little hidden details. I suppose that's my fault since they are a mish-mashed unit of many different slayer models.

On a side note I bid on a webcam on another website and I won! I should have it by late next week. I'm really hoping that I can use it to take better photos of my minis and maybe some videos that I can upload onto YouTube.

Airbrush Fun!!!

Had a try at the new airbrush last night and today. The only thing that I can say is... AWESOME!!! Why didn't I ever get one of these years ago! I baecoated the skin on 20 gretchin in just a few minutes and started the basecoats on the Ork Trukk. Talk about speeding up some processes. I don't know how much I'll be able to use the airbrush with my dwarves since some of the spaces are really tight on the GW models but I can see myself making a lot of headway with the ork army.

Back to the grind...

New Toys!!!!

So a quick update with something that I received for Christmas to help me on my merry way!

During the holidays one of my stops on the Holiday Party Express was my Father-In-Laws house. He used to models years ago but mainly modeled historical models. He hasn't touched models for a while (I won't go into why) and he knew that I'd been interested in getting an airbrush. He told me that I could have this compressor and hooked me up with a single action airbrush to see if I liked airbrushing models before I went out and spent money. Can we say "AWESOME!!!!!!"

(Old aircompressor that still runs like a champ!)

(I love new toys!)

I told him that I couldn't accept the compressor because it was so awesome but I told him that when he was ready to paint again then I would have it for him when he was ready.

I had known that Harbor Freight had a dual action and the reviews weren't too bad on it. I was working nearby the store yesterday and I already knew that I was going to pick it up for myself with a giftcard that I'd received and I looked online to see what the instore price was... and... BAM!!!

SALE!!!

Normally the brush would be 24.99 but this week it was on sale for 17.99!!!

I heard it calling my name like I was a ancient greek adventurer and it was the sirens singing their beautiful song!

 (Bad Picture)

 (BAM!)

I picked up a few other airbrush goodies for pretty cheap. Some dust masks, airbrush cleaners and an extra 10 foot hose rounded out the total rather nicely!

(Harbor Freight airbrush goodies)

Now I can begin my airbrushing adventure! I hope that this will help with my Ork army since it's fallen off my radar because I'm so geared to getting my dwarves going again.

F.I.L. (Father In Law) reads my blog from time to time so here goes...

THANKS DAD!!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

My wife is pretty awesome herself and she got me a sixty dollar gift card to my FLGS so I got a few things with it to help with my horde of ORKS.

(More Boyz that will be turned into some Shoota Boyz)

(A counter set to help me remember stuff!)

(Another Trukk because sometimes 1 just isn't enough)

Now I do realize that sixty dollars worth of GW models don't really add up to be a lot but I'm not complaining because when I'm on a budget... Every bit helps!

THANKS WIFEY!!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

And my awesome brother got me this to add to my Dwarf army! This bad boy isn't resin but good ol' metal!!! I can't wait to put this together.

THANKS BROTHER!!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

Quick update...  I guess this really wasn't a quick update. lol. See ya all on the battle fields!

New Year

It's been a few weeks since I last posted an update. I would like to say that I acomplished lots of painting during my long holiday vacation...

I didn't accomplish anything. I had grand ideas of sitting in my N.C.C. (Nerd Command Center) for hours on end and spending days painting and finishing things up before the end of the year. YEAH... That didn't happen at all. My wife took it upon herself to plan many of my nights doing family activities with relatives and going away for an extended weekend out of town to celebrate New Years.

I would like to say that I am disappointed at the lack of progress made hobbywise during my time off (and there is some of me that really is disappointed... like 30% of me) but I'm pretty happy with the progress that I made of spending time with my wife and children during the break. As I think about it now my family is sort of a hobby of mine as well. I spend a LOT of time with my family and they bring me a lot of enjoyment.

I could sit here and talk about my new years resolutions but to be completely honest... I didn't make any this year. There's a few things that I would like to get done and I'm sure that I will get them done but if I don't then I'll make due.

So... Here's to the next year and 52 more weeks of hobbytime.

I'll set some time aside within the next few days to talk more about my holiday fun time and a few of the hobbywise presents that I received for Christmas.
