Friday Fun

So, it's Friday here and I wanted to give a rundown of everything that I sorted out that pertains to the dwarf models that I had stowed away.

So here goes...

- 8 Slayers

- 9 Hammerers

- Bolt Thrower (new style)

- Bolt Thrower (old style)

- 2 Cannon (old style)

- Cannon (AOBR)

- Organ Gun (new style)

- 8 Miners (AOBR)

- 10 Thunderers (AOBR)

- 12 Warriors (AOBR)

- 12 Warriors (new style)

- 12 Longbeards (old style)

- Warriors w/ Great Weapons (old style)

- 20 Warriors (old style)

- 16 Thunderers (new style)

- 11 Quareller (old style)

- 1 Bugman model (using him as a Runelord / Runesmith)

- 1 Slayer (AOBR)

- 2 Heroes (1 AOBR)

- 1 Lord

So, there you go! Not bad for having them just lying around. Everything minus the characters equals about 2000 points without wargear. With the characters there's probably around 3000 points.

I'll be updating with pictures soon of my progress with my 500 point force.

Whatcha Got? - Fantasy

Went through all of my dwarf stuff over the weekend.

(Backstory) Right before I quit playing years ago, I was beginning to collect dwarf models to start a dwarf army. I got a few models in trades that I'd conducted and then I had bought the rest. When I stopped playing I just threw everything into a box and up in the attic it went.

I finally pulled everything out over the weekend and started to go through everything.

(Here is the pile of dwarves)

(all of the models organized... Not shown is ANOTHER cannon in a blister)

(My original 500 point army that I was beginning)

So, There you go.

I organized everything that was put together. I never knew that I had so much dwarf stuff hidden away. After sorting through everything and adding up all of the units it looks as though I have over 2000 points without characters and upgrades!!! I am amazed that I had that much crap just shoved into a box!!! I'm really happy that I had this much and it really takes a mountain of stress off my mind knowing that I don't have to purchase very much to have a complete army.

I'll add a list of everything broken down within the next few days.

OH NO... NOT WARHAMMER FANTASY!!!

So, just a quick update. My little brother calls the other day. He states "that he's gone to Games Workshop and bought himself some fantasy models and wants to start playing".

My little brother is kinda funny. He's about 8 years younger than I and he played a few games with some of my armies when we were younger. He always talks about getting back into the hobby but I always take what he says with a bit of salt because it's usually the alcohol talking.

BUT it looks like he actually got the ball rolling. So, it looks like I am going to be dusting off my old fantasy models and I'm going to see what I have to work with. I have the Dwarf battle force and the old Battle for Skull Pass box with Dwarves and Goblins. So I could start from there. I think that I actually have some other dwarves that are boxed up somewhere.

Playing games with him won't be as frequent as I'd like because he lives 60 miles away but I'd say that once a month is prolly a good estimate and plus I can always play at the local FLGS. The local FLGS is actually having a Warhammer Fantasy tournament this Sunday so I'm going to see if I can stop by for a buit and watch a game or two.

So within the next few days I should have a rough estimate of what I have available to work with. My brother says that he wants to aim for a game of 1250 points within the next few weeks. If I decide to use dwarves then it should be relatively easy to get to that because Dwarf Lords are pricy.

Blog # 8 - 40K Games Day!!!

The local FLGS was having a 40K Games Day where anyone could go and play with the store's armies and learn the rules. This was perfect for me because I have an understanding of the new rules but I'm not 100% on them.

Game # 1

1500 points - Orks (me) vs. Space Marines (Store Owner)

Mission - 3 objectives

Game went 5 rounds. My tactics were sound and I was able to make it to the objectives but I still lost. After the game we reviewed points because it seemed like the model count for the orks was kinda low for 1500 points. We came up with these numbers...

Space Marines - 1450
Orks - 950

So, yeah... There was a slight disadvantage on my side but considering that I was 400 points weaker I think that I did damn well considering that he only had 1 tactical squad and 1 devastator squad left.

(Game thoughts... Nobz are DAMN good!!! I never realized that they were that good.)

Game # 2

1000 points - Chaos Space Marines (me) vs. Space Marines (Andrew)

Mission - Cleanse

Andrew is a regular here and he was a great oponent. My tactics were sound and by the end of the game I only lost 1 Tactical Marine and 1 Chaos Dreadnought and he was left with nothing.

(Game thoughts... Obliterators are really good... Almost scary good)

AND THE WORK CONTINUES...

Being able to play these 2 games has really jump started me into getting an army finished up and being able to play with it.

(Warboss)

(Boyz... Almost finished)

 (The army so far)

So, there you go. My Ork army so far. My latest purchase is a unit of Gretchin! I don't know why but I love these little guys! I plan to do a full unit of Gretchin in the future. I know that they're not anywhere near the usefulness of a unit of boyz but I plan to just use them as cannon fodder (which is what they're used for anyway!).

As promised here is my recipe for what's been painted on the orks so far...

Ork Skin
Knarloc Green - Foundation
Thraka Green - Ink
Snot Green - 1st layer
Scorpion Green - Highlight

Leather
Calthan Brown - Foundation
Devlan Mud - Ink
Bestial Brown - 1st Layer
Snakebite Leather - Highlight

Blog #7 - Labor Day Weekend

Had a great and busy weekend.

We just had Labor Day weekend which means that there was a 3 day weekend.

Saturday

- I spent the majority of the day Geocaching on a power trail that has recently opened up in southern PA. Geocaching is a great hobby that gets you outdoors seeking many things hidden to others. You should try and google it if you can or want to.

Sunday

- Spent the day catching up on some Youtube videos. I've been watching a great channel that I recently found and I was able to catch up on a lot of older videos. The channel is named "Da40KOrks". It's a great channel and has a lot of good insight. I'm really beginning to enjoy this channel.

- I also had a barbecue / get together later in the evening. I packed up the wife and kids and went to that and we had a blast!!!

Monday - LABOR DAY!!!

I had off on Monday because of the holiday weekend. I got caught up on a LOT of things!!! I got way caught up on "Da40KOrks" Youtube channel. I'm actually current now.

AND I was able to get in a lot of much needed assembling and painting of my 40K Ork Army...

This is a WIP base that I am going to use for my Imperial Fists

HQ - Warboss WIP (Just quick basecoats)

 Troops - Squad 1 WIP

 Troops - Squad 2 WIP

Elites - Nobz Squad 1 WIP

I feel like I've really been on a roll with the painting aspect. Normally I am a very SLOW painter. But I really cranked out some paiting this weekend considering that I only really painted one day! You'll also notice that the squads are missing their Big Shootas and I haven't assembled the Deffkoptas yet.

I have the Big Shootas assembled and the beginnings of paint but once I begin to bulk out some other squads then I will finish them because I want them to be part of a unit of shoota boyz.

In my next blog update I will show some of the color schemes and color combinations that I used for the Ork skin. Hopefully by my next update I will be very close to completion of my first squad.
